HC Deb 11 May 1885 vol 298 cc123-4
MR. KENNY

asked the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, If the Government will consider the advisability of granting additional powers to the Senate of the Royal University, with a view to facilitating the obtaining of degrees by medical men qualified be- fore the passing of the Royal University Act?

MR. CAMPBELL-BANNERMAN

A power such as that referred to was granted to the Senate in their original charter, but lasting for three years only. It expired in November last, and the Senate have not sought to have it renewed. There was an obvious reason for giving it in the first instance which does not now hold good, and I am not aware of any intention to revive it.
