HC Deb 11 May 1885 vol 298 c121
MR. GABBETT

asked the Secretary of State for War, Whether he could advise the augmentation of the Brigade of Guards by the addition of a regiment to be called the "Irish Guards," England and Scotland being already represented by the Grenadier, Coldstream, and Scots Guards?

THE MARQUESS OF HARTINGTON

in reply, said, that several questions had been under consideration affecting the establishment of the regiments of the Guards. No official decision had yet been come to as to what would be done, nor would be till next year's Estimates were under consideration. At that time the suggestion would be considered; but he was not at present able to say whether it would be possible to take a different view on the Question of the hon. Gentleman from that taken by several of his Predecessors.
