HC Deb 08 May 1885 vol 298 c20
MR. BIRKBECK

asked the Secretary to the Admiralty, Whether, taking into consideration the risk ironclads, troopships, and cruisers may be exposed in case of War from torpedoes and ramming, sufficient provision has been made for saving the whole of the lives of the crews and those embarked, over and beyond the boats usually carried?

SIR THOMAS BRASSEY

The Admiralty are fully impressed with the great risks which must be encountered by ships of war, and all reasonable provision is made for the accommodation of the crews in boats.
