HC Deb 06 March 1885 vol 295 cc283-4
MR. STANLEY LEIGHTON

asked the Vice President of the Committee of Council, Whether any action has been taken by the Department, or the London School Board, in consequence of Dr. Crichton Browne's Report, presented last year to Parliament; and, whether anything is likely to be done to mitigate the evils of over-pressure therein declared to exist?

MR. MUNDELLA

The London School Board is at present conducting a searching inquiry into the allegations made in Dr. Crichton Browne's Report, all of which relate to London schools. The Education Department has taken no stops in consequence of that Report, inasmuch as long before anything was heard of it provisions were introduced into the Code which, by general testimony, have done all that the Central Government can do to prevent overpressure.
