HC Deb 27 February 1885 vol 294 c1618
COLONEL NOLAN

asked the Secretary of State for War, How many Non-Commissioned Officers and Soldiers who were engaged in the Tel-el-Kebir Campaign have received Commissions, other than those of Quartermaster or Riding Master; and, if, in the case of the vacant Commissions created by the deaths of Officers in action during the present Campaign, he will award a large proportion of these to the Non-Commissioned Officers engaged?

THE MARQUESS OF HARTINGTON

Of the Non-Commissioned Officers who served in the Egyptian Campaign of 1882, three have been promoted to lieutenancies, and two were offered the same promotion, but declined it. The utmost possible consideration will be given to the cases of any Non-Commissioned Officers who, during the present Campaign, may be brought to notice by their Commanding Officers.
