HC Deb 24 February 1885 vol 294 c1154
MR. BIGGAR

asked the Secretary to the Treasury, What is the extent of the mortgage of the Government against the Derry Central Railway; what is the rate of interest; and, whether the interest has been punctually paid up till the present; and, if not, how much arrears of interest is due?

MR. HIBBERT

[The mortgage in this case is for £100,000, bearing interest at 4 per cent. I am sorry to say the interest has not been paid punctually, and the arrears have accumulated to the amount of about £10,000. The Company is, however, paying over the whole of its net revenue, and with improved traffic we may hope to see the arrears reduced.

SIR HERVEY BRUCE

asked whether there were other railways in the same position?

MR. HIBBERT

said, it was only too true that there were other railways in the same position.

SIR HERVEY BRUCE

What are their names?

MR. HIBBERT

said, he could not tell the names at present.
