HC Deb 24 February 1885 vol 294 cc1168-9
SIR BALDWYN LEIGHTON

asked Mr. Chancellor of the Exchequer, Whether the question of Short Service, especially as regards Indian Reliefs and the depletion of Regiments, also the numbers of men constantly in hospital, will form parts of the subject for the Select Committee on Army and Navy Expenditure, or be within the province of such Committee?

THE CHANCELLOE OF THE EXCHEQUER (Mr. CHILDERS)

The whole question of Army and Navy Expenditure is proposed to be referred to the Committee, and it will be for the Committee itself to determine what branches of expenditure it will take up.
