This House deplores the desertion and betrayal of General Gordon, the useless waste of life in Egypt and the Soudan, and the slaughter of the garrisons which we were too late to relieve; and disapproves of the continuance of Military Operations unless they are to be con- 1021 ducted in pursuance of some definite policy, and for objects other than those which were stated by the First Lord of the Treasury.
