HC Deb 20 February 1885 vol 294 cc999-1000

Considered in Committee.

(In the Committee.)

Motion made, and Question proposed, That the Chairman be directed to move the House, That leave he given to bring in a Bill to amend the Law as to Oaths."—(Mr. Hopwood.)

MR. NEWDEGATE

said, he hoped he was not anticipating his proper opportunity by asking on what day the hon. and learned Member for Stockport (Mr. Hopwood) intended to propose the second reading of this Bill? He desired this information in order that the House might have some idea of the time at their disposal for its consideration.

MR. HOPWOOD

said, that when leave had been obtained for the introduction of the Bill, a reasonable time would certainly be given for the purpose mentioned by the hon. Gentleman opposite.

Question put, and agreed to. Resolved, That the Chairman be directed to move the House, That leave be given to bring in a Bill to amend the Law as to Oaths.

Resolution reported:—Bill ordered to be brought in by Mr. HOPWOOD, Mr. STANSFELD, Mr. PERCY WYNDHAM, Mr. CHAELES RUSSELL, Mr. NOEL, Mr. PENNINGTON, and Mr. ARTHUR ELLIOT.

Bill presented, and read the first time. [Bill 62.]
