HC Deb 14 April 1885 vol 296 cc1623-4
MR. O'DONNELL

I beg to give Notice that on Thursday I shall ask the First Lord of the Treasury, Whether his attention has been called to the circumstances in which a large body of the people of Mallow and Cork, accompanied by the Member of Parliament for the borough, while peacefully awaiting the arrival of the Prince of Wales, were violently assaulted and driven from the station by the police and other agents of Her Majesty's Government; whether the excuse for this violation of personal rights is that bands of music were expected to play Irish national airs on the arrival of their Royal Highnesses; whether the Prince of Wales gave any intimation that he regarded Irish national airs and similar manifestations of Irish national sentiment as insults to be repressed by force; and, if so, why is His Royal Highness visiting Ireland?
