HC Deb 14 April 1885 vol 296 cc1626-7
MR. BAXTER

asked the Under Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, If communications have been received from the British missionaries and residents in Antananarivo, Madagascar, complaining of the stoppage of their incoming mails, of the neglect of the authorities in Mauritius to forward their letters, and of their isolation in this respect since British ships of war have left the station; and, if steps will be taken to provide a remedy for this state of matters?

LORD EDMOND FITZMAURICE

No communications have as yet been received at the Foreign Office of the nature referred to; but I believe that a representation on the subject is about to be addressed to Her Majesty's Government.
