HC Deb 21 November 1884 vol 294 cc130-1
SIR H. DRUMMOND WOLFF

asked the Secretary of State for War, Whether, considering that there are two Bat- talions of Marines engaged in the present operations in Egypt, Her Majesty's Government will appoint a Royal Marine General to the command of the Forces belonging to that corps?

THE MARQUESS OF HARTINGTON

Although 933 Marines have been landed in Egypt, they are distributed between Suakin, Suez, and the Nile; and I am not aware of any necessity for appointing a General Officer of Marines in connection with them.
