HC Deb 26 May 1884 vol 288 cc1313-4
MR. INGE

asked the Secretary to the Treasury, What are the number of employés engaged at the Middlesex Registry, and which of these is it proposed should be taken into Government employ at the Land Transfer Office, and out of what funds are those to be so taken at present paid?

MR. COURTNEY

I am informed that there are nine officers now employed at the Middlesex Registry besides a number of copyists. They are paid out of the fees of the Registry. Should the Registry be transferred to the State, as proposed, we would endeavour to effect some reduction in its cost; but we cannot at present judge whether this is possible.
