HC Deb 19 May 1884 vol 288 c670
MR. W. H. SMITH

asked Mr. Chancellor of the Exchequer, If he will lay upon the Table a Return showing the mintage or profit on the Coinage of Silver for the last five years, before the Coinage Bill is read a second time?

THE CHANCELLOR OF THE EXCHEQUER (Mr. CHILDERS)

I have no objection to give such a Return; but I should prefer that it should extend over a wider period than the last five years, during two of which the annual profit on the silver coinage has been exceptionally large. I will arrange with the right hon. Gentleman for the words of a Return.
