HC Deb 05 May 1884 vol 287 c1325
MR. COLERIDGE KENNARD

asked the Postmaster General, Whether he has come to any agreement with the Chancellor of the Exchequer as to the source from which the cost of management of the Government Savings Banks branches will be defrayed after the rate of interest on Consols shall have been reduced to the same rate as that allowed to depositors?

MR. FAWCETT

The hon. Gentleman's Question appears to assume that Two-and-a-Half per Cent Stock will be at par, and that all Post Office Savings Bank moneys will be invested in Government Stocks. This is not the case, and I, therefore, think that the Question is premature.
