HC Deb 05 May 1884 vol 287 c1322
SIR HENRY HOLLAND

asked the Under Secretary of State for the Colonies, Whether he will lay upon the Table any correspondence relating to the change in the Civil duties of the Governor and Colonial Secretary at Malta, including any instructions to the new Governor upon this subject? He also asked whether, when Sir Lintorn Simmons was appointed, he had notice of the change that was to be made in his duties?

MR. EVELYN ASHLEY

, in reply, said, the Correspondence was prepared, and would shortly be laid upon the Table. As to the other Question of the hon. Member, the appointment of Governor of Malta was made by the Commander-in-Chief; but his (Mr. Evelyn Ashley's) impression was that Sir Lintorn Simmons was not informed of the changes.
