HC Deb 25 March 1884 vol 286 c738
MR. HEALY

asked the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland Whether, out of twenty-eight members of the Irish Privy Council Veterinary Staff, seventeen are Englishmen or Scotchmen, and that only one is a Catholic; and, if he will state how those gentlemen are appointed?

MR. TREVELYAN

The official records afford no means of answering the inquiry as to the nationality and religious professions of the Veterinary Staff. The appointments are made by the Lord Lieutenant, and regard is had only to personal fitness.
