HC Deb 21 March 1884 vol 286 cc450-1
MR. ARNOLD MORLEY

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department, If he can inform the House when the Royal Commissioners on Accidents in Mines, who were appointed on the 12th of February, 1879, and who, in the year 1881, presented a preliminary Report, may be expected to present another and final Report on their investigations, which have now extended over a period of more than five years?

SIR WILLIAM HARCOURT

, in reply, said, there had been a great deal of delay in the issue of the final Report referred to by the hon. Member, but for which good reason could be shown, it being due to the introduction, within the last few months, of a large number of safety lamps possessing features of novelty. He was, however, informed by the Secretary to the Commission that a draft Report had been prepared, but that it, as well as many other matters, would require careful discussion and consideration; but he hoped the Report would be presented before the end of the Session.
