HC Deb 13 March 1884 vol 285 cc1335-6
MR. CROPPER

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department, If he can state what the Registrar General estimates the population of England will be, and also the population of Scotland, in the middle of the present year?

MR. GEORGERUSSELL

Sir, on the hypothesis that the rate of increase since the Census of 1881 continues the same as it was in the period between the last Census and the last but one, the Registrar General estimates that the population of England and Wales in the middle of 1881 will be 27,132,449. The estimated population of Scotland at the same period is 3,866,521.
