asked the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, Whether the population of Ireland, up to middle of 1883, was correctly estimated at 5,015,328; and, what does the Registrar General for Ireland estimate will be the population of Ireland in the middle of the present year?

MR. TREVELYAN

Sir, the Registrar General states that the estimate quoted was made in the usual manner, and is believed to be accurate, and that the estimate for the middle of the present year, made upon such data as are at present available, is about 4,953,000.
