§ SIR HENRY TYLERasked the First Lord of the Treasury, Whether Her Majesty's Government contemplate the construction of a Railway between Suakin and the Nile?
MR. GLADSTONEIn answer to the hon. Member, I have to say that it has been the duty of the Government to consider very carefully all questions relating to the probability of sending an expedition southward in Egypt; and, among others, the question as to whe- 589 ther it would be expedient to construct a railway between Suakin and the Nile, and all other particulars relating to the construction of that railway. Further than that I do not think it would be for the public interest to say.
