asked the Under Secretary of State for the Home Department, If he is aware that tobacco, as usually sold to the working classes, is weighted and adulterated with from thirty to fifty per cent, of water; and, whether such an addition is an offence under the Adulteration Acts; and, if it is, if he will order the prosecution of the offenders?

The Secretary of State has no knowledge of the facts stated in this Question; but if the matter is authentically brought to his notice, he will have it carefully considered, and will take such steps as may be necessary.
