Rungiah Naidoo, a Vakeel of the High Court, and Municipal Commissioner, Madras, to the effect that, in contravention of the India Office Regulations of 1879, the Govern- 1782 ment of Madras on 30th April gazetted Mr. Tarrant and another European to certain appointments; and, whether the Secretary of State has sanctioned these appointments?
§ MR. J. K. CROSSThe communication referred to has been sent direct to the India Office, and has been returned to the writer for submission through the Government of Madras in accordance with fixed Rules. A letter from the Madras Government relating to these appointments has also been received, and is at present under the consideration of the Secretary of State in Council.
