HC Deb 21 July 1884 vol 290 c1740
MR. SEXTON

asked Mr. Solicitor General for Ireland, Having regard to the undertaking given as to the case of the Tubbercurry prisoners, what is now the intention of the Crown with respect to their trial?

THE SOLICITOR GENERAL FOR IRELAND (Mr. WALKER)

It was the full intention of the Crown to proceed with this trial at the present Assizes; but in consequence of its being sworn that advertisements had been circulated through the county and amongst the jurors and published in the local newspapers, making certain statements in respect of the trial calculated to affect it, the Judge postponed the trial; but the Crown is still anxious for and will take steps to secure a speedy trial.

MR. O'BRIEN

Why was not the case against Fitzgerald proceeded with; he was not connected with the locality?

THE SOLICITOR GENERAL FOR IRELAND (Mr. WALKER)

The same circumstances governed all the cases.

MR. SEXTON

gave Notice that he would call attention to the matter on the Vote for the Law Charges in Ireland.
