They had heard that night of the retirement of Mr. Speaker, and also from the Prime Minister the terms of a Motion which he intended to make at half-past 4 o'clock on Monday, the interest and importance of which would, in his opinion, make it undesirable that the Order relating to the Business of the House should be taken on that day.
MR. GLADSTONEYes, Sir. In the event of the debate upon the Motion which I shall move upon the retirement of Mr. Speaker not occupying any considerable time, I intend to proceed with the adjourned debate on the question relating to the Standing Committees.
