HC Deb 15 February 1884 vol 284 c1013
MR. O'SULLIVAN

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury, Whether it is true that one-half the cost of building Court Houses in Scotland is defrayed out of moneys provided by Parliament; and, if so, why it is that similar assistance is not given for the building of Court Houses in Ireland?

MR. COURTNEY

It is true that this apparent disparity exists; but the Question of the hon. Member involves a comparison of many items of expenditure; and I am afraid that the result of a full inquiry would not be that Ireland gets less assistance than Scotland. We may hope that through the development of local government an approximately identical system will be established in the divisions of the Kingdom.
