HC Deb 08 February 1884 vol 284 cc320-1
MR. STOREY

asked the Under Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Whether he had any further information as to the captured crew of the Nisero; and, whether the British authorities intended themselves to take active steps to effect their release?

LORD EDMOND FITZMAURICE

From the latest accounts received there is reason to hope that the crew of the Nisero are being fairly well treated by the Rajah of Tenom. Their case is engaging the anxious attention of Her Majesty's Government. It is proposed that the Governor of the Straits Settlements, Sir Frederick Weld, should send an agent to the Rajah to endeavour to obtain the release of the crew, and Her Majesty's ship Pegasus will probably convey him to the coast.
