HC Deb 08 February 1884 vol 284 c316
MR. S. SMITH

asked the President of the Board of Trade, Whether, having regard to the increasing revenue of the Mercantile Marine Fund, he will consider the possibility of making a reduction in the Light Dues now charged on Merchant Shipping?

MR. CHAMBERLAIN

I am glad to be able to state that I am in a position to recommend a further reduction of 10 per cent in the light dues, to take effect from the 31st of next month. This reduction will increase the reduction to 70 per cent; in other words, the shipowner will pay only 30 per cent of the amount which could be charged.
