HC Deb 08 February 1884 vol 284 c300
VISCOUNT LEWISHAM

asked the Secretary of State for War, Whether the Committee, presided over by General Newdigate, appointed for the purpose of investigating the subject of "gallery shooting," reported favourably of the system known as Morris's Patent; and, if so, if the Government intend to take any steps to introduce that system, with a view to the improvement of shooting in the Army?

THE MARQUESS OF HARTINGTON

General Newdigate's Committee did report favourably on the system referred to. Two hundred of the Morris tubes have already been ordered, and the battalions at home will be supplied with the apparatus during the year 1884–5.
