HC Deb 25 April 1884 vol 287 cc651-2
MR. MORGAN LLOYD

asked the First Lord of the Treasury, Whether, having regard to the interest felt in the question by the people of Wales, he will give facilities to the Honourable Member for Swansea to bring forward his Motion on the Disestablishment of the Church in Wales during the present Session?

MR. GLADSTONE

I hope my hon. Friend the Member for Swansea (Mr. Dillwyn) may be favoured by fortune to secure a day which will ensure a proper discussion of the question which he has raised. With respect, however, to our giving facilities, I do not think we could consistently, in the present state of Public Business, give any for a Motion which we are not prepared to support. We are not quite ready to take charge of a measure for the Disestablishment of the Church in Wales, and thus add to the burdens with which we are laden at the present moment.
