HC Deb 24 April 1884 vol 287 c459
MR. STANLEY LEIGHTON

asked the Vice President of the Committee of Council, Whether the Reports of the London School Board show that in Blocks E, F, H, I, J, K, Lambeth, there would be surplus school accommodation for about 200 scholars if every child known to the School Board visitors was to be present at school whenever its doors were open; whether he has granted permission to the School Board to erect a large additional school in these blocks; and, whether, since the School Board are not allowed by the Department to provide more school accommodation than is required by the number of children, he will explain to the House the reasons for such permission being granted?

MR. MUNDELLA

The facts are not as stated in. the Question of the hon. Member; on the contrary, the number of children known to the School Board Visitors according to the latest schedule is 11,009, while the number of school places provided is 8,083.
