HC Deb 05 March 1883 vol 276 c1425
MR. T. A. DICKSON

asked the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, When he expects to lay upon the Table of the House the Report of the Land Commissioners on the condition of the tenants who purchased under the Irish Church Act, 1869?

MR. TREVELYAN

Sir, I must remind the hon. Member that I made no promise to lay the Report referred to on the Table of the House, nor can I now undertake to do so, as the question it deals with is a very large one indeed, involving very important transactions, which will require to be considered very carefully by the Cabinet beforehand. I have received the following telegram from the Under Secretary, which I will read to the House— As the Land Commissioners state they are not agreed on the subject of the tenants under the Irish Church Act and only send a Report from their solicitor, I think it would not he advisable to present their letter.

MR. T. A. DICKSON

said, he certainly understood the right hon. Gentleman to promise that he would lay the Report on the Table.
