§ MR. EARP (in the absence of Dr. CAMERON)asked the President of the Board of Trade, Whether it is correct 1222 that the Meteorological Society have abandoned what is generally known as the circular theory of storms, as propounded by Sir William Reid, Piddington, and others; and, if so, whether public notice of the fact has been sent to the commanders, officers, and others of our Royal and Mercantile Navies, and to the examiners at the Local Marine Boards?
§ MR. CHAMBERLAINI have no authority over the Meteorological Society; but I communicated with the Secretary, and I am informed by him that it is not true that they have abandoned the circular theory of storms, but that recent investigations have shown that some slight modifications might be suggested.
