HC Deb 09 August 1883 vol 282 cc2095-6
MR. ASHMEAD-BARTLETT

asked the Under Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Whether he can give the House any further information from Madagascar with regard to the insult of the British Flag at Tamatave?

LORD EDMOND FITZMAURICE

Sir, despatches have been received at the Admiralty. They are voluminous, and are now being printed for the consideration of Her Majesty's Government. Under these circumstances, the House will see that it is not possible for me to make a premature statement.

MR. ASHMEAD - BARTLETT

I shall repeat the Question on Monday.

SIR STAFFORD NORTHCOTE

Is there any Correspondence connected with this case at the Foreign Office?

LORD EDMOND FITZMAURICE

Yes, Sir; two despatches have come, but those despatches are of no importance. The important despatches are those to the Admiralty.
