MR. O'BRIENasked the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, 1337 Whether negotiations are in progress for the emigration to Canada of a further draft of ten thousand families from Ireland; and, whether an opportunity will be given to Parliament of discussing the project before the bargain is completed?
§ MR. TREVELYANAs has, I believe, been stated in "another place," negotiations have been in progress, and have not been dropped; but I cannot bind the Government as to any number of families or amounts of money. The matter is one which would require legislation, so that Parliament will have the opportunity of discussing it in its fullest form.
MR. O'BRIENWill any official Report be presented as to what is happening to the families already emigrated?
§ MR. TREVELYANIn the course of the Recess I will certainly see if any information which could be presented to Parliament can be obtained. The information which we possess up to the present time is, on the whole, extremely satisfactory.
