MR. O'CONNOR POWERasked the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, If he is aware that the police, in making searches under the Prevention of Crime Act, sometimes neglect to produce the warrant authorising the search; and, if he will take steps to make them comply with legal requirements in this respect?
§ MR. TREVELYANThe Act of Parliament does not direct the production of the warrant, except upon demand. I have not heard of any complaint being made against the police for refusing to produce their warrants when required to do so.
MR. O'CONNOR POWEEI may inform the right hon. Gentleman that I have received several letters complaian- 423 ing that the police have refused to produce the warrant, and I think it is needless irritation.
§ MR. TREVELYANIf the right hon. Gentleman will inform me on the matter, I will inquire into them.
