§ MR. CHAMBERLAINSir, no such means as are alluded to in the Question have been brought under the notice of the Board of Trade for improving the ventilation of the Underground Railway. I ought to add that I have no appliances for testing any invention which may be brought to me, and I have no authority to insure their adoption, even if I should approve of them.
