HC Deb 02 April 1883 vol 277 c1166
MR. STANLEY LEIGHTON

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department, Whether, in consideration of the unprecedented addition to the local Police Forces for the protection of public servants and public buildings, rendered necessary by political and temporary circumstances, unconnected with local causes, the Government have any intention of relieving the ratepayers from the exceptional cost so entailed?

SIR WILLIAM HARCOURT,

in reply, said, he was not aware of anything having been done to warrant any such course being proposed.
