HC Deb 30 October 1882 vol 274 c365
MR. J. W. BARCLAY

asked the Under Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Whether it is definitely settled that merchants and others who suffered by the burning of Alexandria are to be indemnified for the direct loss they sustained; and, whether the tribunal to adjudicate on the claims has yet been constituted?

SIR CHARLES W. DILKE

It is intended that a Commission should adjudicate upon these claims; but the composition of the Commission has not been settled. It is now the subject of negotiation between the Powers.
