HC Deb 26 October 1882 vol 274 c169
MR. PULESTON (for Mr. ASHMEAD-BARTLETT)

asked the Under Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Whether he can state the main conditions of a Treaty alleged to have been secretly concluded between the Bey of Tunis and the French Republic, by which Tunis has been virtually made a French Province; and, whether Her Majesty's Government intend to recognise such a Treaty?

SIR CHARLES W. DILKE

Sir, Her Majesty's Government have no official information of the conclusion of such a Treaty, and until the terms of such a Treaty are known to them they are unable to state the view they take of its stipulations.
