COLONEL COLTHUESTasked the Secretary to the Treasury, Whether he has received any representations from the Board of Public Works in Ireland as to the providing of additional inspectors, there being now only one for each province in charge of the loans to occupiers for land improvement; and, if not, whether he will call the attention of that Department to the inevitable delays and disappointment which must result from the want of a sufficient staff of inspectors?
§ MR. COURTNEYNo avoidable delay has yet occurred in dealing with applications for loans under Sections 19 and 31 of the Land Act; but the increased number of the applications now coming in will probably necessitate increased inspecting assistance; and the Treasury will have no hesitation in sanctioning this if satisfied of its necessity.
