§ MR. CAINEasked the First Lord of the Treasury, If he will consider the desirability of placing all post office appointments throughout the Country under the control of the Postmaster General?
MR. GLADSTONEWe have no reason to believe that the present arrangement, by which Post Office appointments of a certain class are placed under the Treasury, works in any manner injurious to the public interest, and we have no intention to make any change.
§ MR. CAINEsaid, that, as there would be plenty of opportunities next Session of discussing the question, he would call attention to the inconvenience of certain appointments in the Post Office being under the control of the Patronage Secretary to the Treasury.
