HC Deb 13 November 1882 vol 274 c1288
MR. ONSLOW

asked the Under Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Whether it is true that three British officers have been sent, or are to be sent, to report on the state of affairs in the Soudan; if so, whether Her Majesty's Government have made it a condition that they should be accompanied by a suitable escort?

SIR CHARLES W. DILKE

This Question was answered by the Secretary of State for War on Friday. I am informed by the War Office that the General Officer Commanding in Egypt does not think it expedient to send any escort with the officers whom he thinks it advisable to send to Khartoum.

MR. ONSLOW

Is the advice approved of?

SIR CHARLES W. DILKE

That Question should be addressed to the Secretary of State for War.
