HC Deb 09 November 1882 vol 274 cc1107-8
MR. BRODRICK

asked the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, If it is the case that Mr. Waters, Q.C. County Court Judge of the county Leitrim, appointed a person named Bernard Kane as Court Valuer for the Ballinamore Quarter Sessions district in cases of fixing judicial rents to be heard by him; whether Mr. Kane is a tenant farmer residing in the same district; and, whether his annual valuation exceeds £15?

MR. TREVELYAN

The Question of the hon. Member is one of a series of similar Questions which have been put to me by hon. Members on that side of the House. I think I cannot deal with the matter otherwise than by reading an extract from a letter addressed to my Secretary by Mr. Waters, on the 30th of last month, in reference to one of the Questions put on the Paper by the noble Lord the Member for Down (Lord Arthur Hill). The extract is as follows:— I would put it to the consideration of the Chief Secretary whether I should answer any more such Questions. If I do anything wrong in my official position let them move in the proper manner to have me dismissed.
