HC Deb 04 May 1882 vol 269 c92
MR. SUMMERS

asked the President of the Board of Trade, Whether his attention has been called to the adulteration of American cotton imported into this Country; and, whether he has taken, or intends to take, any action with regard to it?

MR. CHAMBERLAIN

Sir, my attention has been called to this subject through statements made in the newspapers, but not by any communications from parties interested in the matter. As far as I have been able to ascertain, I do not think it would be advisable for the Government to interfere or take any action.
