§ SIR JOHN KENNAWAYasked the Under Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Whether the Foreign Office have any information of the reported intention of the Portuguese Government to occupy the district adjoining Lake Nyassa, in which the Blantyre Mission is situate; and, whether such occupation has the approval of Her Majesty's Government, as being a step likely to diminish the Slave Trade as now carried on by Portuguese subjects on the coast of Mozambique?
§ SIR CHARLES W. DILKESir, the report mentioned by the hon. Baronet reached Her Majesty's Government from Zanzibar; but they have been since positively assured by the Portuguese Government that it is without foundation.
