MR. O'CONNOR POWERasked Mr. Attorney General for Ireland, On what grounds Messrs. John King and Thomas Winterscale are still detained in Galway Prison as suspects, whereas three other prisoners, arrested at the same time and on the same charge, have long since been released from custody; and, whether it is true that these two prisoners have been detained for more than nine months; and, if so, whether they may not now be liberated without detriment to public peace and tranquillity?
§ THE ATTORNEY GENERAL FOR IRELAND (Mr. W. M. JOHNSON)These two persons have been in detention more than nine months. Their cases were considered, as the Act requires, and so recently as last month; but His Excellency felt himself unable, after careful investigation, to order their discharge.
