HC Deb 08 June 1882 vol 270 c474
MR. REDMOND

asked the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, Whether it is a fact that Columb Norton, the only prisoner from Arran Island, is still detained under the Coercion Act in Kilmainham Prison, at a long distance from his home; that he is unable to speak English and that there is no other prisoner in that prison who is able to speak Irish; and, whether he will now order his release?

MR. TREVELYAN

Sir, Coleman Naughton is the name of the person to whom this Question relates, and his case is at present under the Lord Lieutenant's consideration. The other persons arrested at the same time as Naughton, charged with the same offence, have not been released, as the hon. Member seems to think. Naughton was transferred to Kilmainham Gaol in February last, and there are warders in that prison who can speak Irish.
