asked the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, Whether he has any objection to lay upon the Table a list containing the names of the gentlemen who have been appointed to act as independent inspectors of Prisons in Ireland, with the dates of their appointments?

Sir, the names of the gentlemen are Lord Monck, Dr. Lyons, M.P., the hon. Member for Dublin, and the right hon. Mr. Cogan, for the Dublin Convict Prison; Mr. W. R. Meade, J.P., Mr. N. D. Murphy, J.P., and Captain E. N. Penrose Fitzgerald, for Spike Island Convict Prison. The appointments were made for 12 months from the 1st October, 1881.

asked if the right hon. Gentleman was aware that any of the gentlemen he had named, with the exception of the hon. Member for the City of Dublin, had ever taken any interest in the management or discipline of prisons?
