HC Deb 03 July 1882 vol 271 cc1243-4
MR. W. J. CORBET

asked the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, With reference to a statement in the "Times" of this morning, whether it is the intention of Government to fill up the vacancy created in the office of Deputy Inspector General of Constabulary by the promotion of Colonel Bruce to be Inspector General; and, if so, whether, considering that the great majority of the force are Roman Catholics, he will appoint a Roman Catholic to the post?

MR. TREVELYAN

Sir, the Government have not yet come to any definite conclusion upon this matter.
